Nepali Congress (NC) candidate Gagan Thapa reportedly secured more than 4,500 more votes compared to the total proportional representation (PR) votes received by his party in Sarlahi Constituency No. 4.
There were a total of 121,012 registered voters in Sarlahi-4.
Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) candidate Amresh Kumar Singh won the election held on March 5 with 35,688 votes. NC candidate Thapa, who is also the party president, received 22,831 votes.
The NC received 18,081 votes under the PR category in the constituency. Thapa’s individual tally in the direct (first-past-the-post) election exceeded the party’s PR vote count by 4,750 votes.
However, the RSP also led the PR standings in the constituency, securing 45,516 proportional votes.
In the 2022 House of Representatives election, Amresh Kumar Singh had won as an independent candidate with 20,017 votes.
During that election, the NC had formed an electoral alliance with the then-ruling coalition. NC candidate Nagendra Kumar secured 18,252 votes at the time, while the party managed only 16,029 PR votes.
There were also some new voters in the constituency this time.
